Holly Hunter, an American film and actress, is known for her acclaimed performance in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano earned her an Oscar. The successful actress began her career as an actor in the theatre through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. As a child, Helen Keller was her favourite character in a fifth grade show. Her mumps left her deaf and blind in one ear. But she did not allow this to hinder her ambitions of becoming an actress. While in college, she took classes in theatre and then moved from Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania to New York City in pursuit of her dreams. Hunter was able to make her Broadway debut after a chance meeting with Beth Henley, a playwright. The two worked together in Broadway Crimes of the Heart. After moving to Los Angeles she tried to obtain film roles and was offered the role of a co-star on Swing Shift. Her work spans over thirty years and she's appeared in many TV movies or series, as well as films. Holly Hunter is a Hollywood Walk of Fame famous person as well as a winner of the Women in Film Lucy Award.
